Assignment 2: Listening for
Identity (One Test Subject)
Using
the same procedure as the last week, play any two of the six records
in the player below for a human subject (only one human subject this time) and
analyze their kinesthetic and emotional responses. When they are done listening
to each record, ask them to answer the following questions:
What
emotions do you feel in reaction to this record?
How
would you describe the identity of this artist just from listening to this
record?
If you want
to delve deeper into any of these areas with follow-up questions, feel free to
do so; however, refrain from sharing any opinions of your own about the record
you just played. Once you have made notes on your human subject’s responses and
have collected their own notes, you are finished with the subject. Feel free to
release them back into the wild.
Your next
task will be to write up the results of your experiments in observation.
Your write-up
will include the following information:
1.
the records
you chose to use
2.
name, gender,
approximate age, occupation, and relationship to you (if any) of your test
subject
3.
the sensory and/or
kinesthetic responses you observed in your test subject for both records
4.
your test
subject’s responses to the question on the identity of the artists
5.
your informed
speculations about your test subject’s reactions to the artist’s identity, both
stated and observed
6.
a short
statement on your perception of the artists’ identities and how this differed
from your test subject’s perception
