At this point you have read and viewed adaptations of adaptations. David Cronenberg drew from Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, Langelaan’s The Fly, and the 1958 film The Fly, to create his celebrated film, The Fly. Choose a scene from Cronenberg’s film and discuss (with examples) how Cronenberg attempts to (re)interpret at least one of the aforementioned stories.
For example, consider who/what is the antagonist in these various stories; how might we think of Gregor/Seth Brundle/André Delambre as a look into the psyche of modern man. Similarly, how might ideas of these stories as a comment on an impersonal or alienating world, or as a very dark comedy be communicated across adaptations?
