Prompt C – Imposter Syndrome
Have you ever dealt with imposter syndrome? Did you discover anything that has helped you overcome its feeling?
I have experienced this feeling and I originally thought it was just a lack of confidence or feeling uncomfortable in a new environment or in a role that was unfamiliar to me. I did not realize until recently that there was actually a term for this and that others experienced it as well. Learning about imposter syndrome helped me to overcome my fears. Somehow, just knowing that I was not alone in this feeling was helpful. I thought there was something wrong with me. One of the main takeaways from this podcast was to be aware of “analysis paralysis.” I have experienced this so many times in my life. I can overthink and overanalyze a situation to the point of becoming frozen in indecision and doubt.
Prompt D – Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
Review Montañez’s Flamin’ Hot Cheeto story. Do you believe he is actually originally responsible for pitching the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos product idea? Why or why not? How do you think this story relates to today’s multi-generational, diverse workplace culture, and what politics come into play?
I thought Mr. Montanez’s story was true. The way in which his story was presented in the video was very convincing. Having someone who was posing as a spokesperson for the company explaining his contribution to the development of the “flamin’ hot” line of products gave an added layer of credibility. I was disappointed when I watched the “debunking” video. The idea that something so wildly popular originated in the mind of a company janitor is the kind of story that makes a great movie. And others thought so as well, which is why it was set to go into production. This story relates to today’s diverse workplace in that the “flamin’ hot” brand came about to cater to the growing population of Hispanics and Asians whose traditional cultural foods embrace spicy flavors. I believe that the politics of protecting the brand came into play. It seems that once Frito Lay realized the popularity of Mr. Montanez’s story, it was then they began to refute his claims and discredit his story.
