Your police agency has just hired you as a crime analyst, a key position for the department’s new evidence-based policing program. The new Chief was hired to implement this new strategy as a replacement from the former Chief’s more conventional approach.
He needs your assistance to obtain buy-in from the stakeholders (elected officials). You will be giving a presentation at the next board meeting to introduce CompStat as the agency’s new evidence-based policing strategy. Your presentation will discuss the program’s implementation within six months and a stretch goal of reducing overall crime within your jurisdiction by ten percent within one year of implementation.
Under the CompStat program, your two new innovative problem-solving tactics will be predictive patrolling and focused deterrence. You’ll need to define these tactics to the stakeholders and explain how they will be successful in achieving the stretch goal.
The goal of your presentation is to instill confidence in your agency’s ability to reduce crime. The Chief has indicated that the stakeholders have mixed feelings on whether to endorse the strategy. One of the stakeholders is a retired police officer with traditional views. Two other stakeholders are neutral to the strategy but believe ethical and logistical controversies may exist. The Chief expects your presentation to predict and answer questions challenging an evidence-based policing strategy before they can be asked.

Explains law enforcement’s use of CompStat with details on how this differs from traditional policing.
Describes the benefits of predictive patrolling with details on drawbacks and concerns including crime displacement tactics and how these challenges could be addressed.
Discusses the impact of focused deterrence with details on the drawbacks and ethical concerns and how these challenges could be addressed.
Provides a persuasive closing that addresses questions challenging the implementation of the evidence-based policing strategies – CompStat, predictive patrolling, and focused deterrence.
Provides a title slide and credible sources in APA format in the reference slide.
Uses professional language with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the presentation.
Minimum of five content slides: slides should only contain general information as a visual reference for the audience (e.g., brief bullet points), and the speaker’s notes should contain the details of each slide.
