Students, in this course we will explore ways of teaching social studies as prospective educators. Social Studies is a vital subject that our students need in order to be successful citizens in society. There are so many issues that are prevalent in our world today. So we need to ensure to educate our students in this manner. In my experience as an elementary educator, we were told to integrate social studies and science into the ELA curricula. This works, however, in my professional opinion, students still need to be taught basic facts about social issues as well as provoke their thoughts on current events. This is an essential part of educating young people, to ensure that they are informed participants in society.
Your assignment is to complete the tasks listed below:
(a) Share with me, your experience on how Social Studies/History was taught to you in school. Include social injustices that are happening in our world today; (should be 1-page in length);
(b) Secondly, think of a recent issue that has taken place in our society within the last six months to a year and create a lesson on your topic. Feel free to use the lesson format of your choice when creating this lesson. I will include a copy of the Madeline Hunter format, feel free to use a lesson plan format that your district currently uses; be sure to include how you will include technology in your lesson;
