Butt! Back to the content at hand…
We will be constantly striving for truth in our course, so it is of the utmost importance to get in a habit of questioning all the sources of information you are presented with. I understand this can be mentally exhausting – we have bias as a survival mechanism to deal with a complex world – but getting into the habit now will help serve your future success.
The CRAAP method is below. Yes, that acronym is on purpose This is from our friends at CSU, Chico and ISU to help us all remember to hit these hot points each time we are deciding whether to believe a source or not. They are:
Currency (When was it published? Has it been updated?)
Relevance (Does it relate to your needs? Who is the audience?)
Authority (Who are the author and publisher? What are their credentials?)
Accuracy (Is it reliable and truthful? Is it supported by evidence?)
Purpose (Why does this information exist? Is there a bias?)

Last… but not least…For this assignment you can use any reputable resources found within and outside of our library and I would suggest you check out the sources I have curated for you at: https://www.marypoffenroth.com/research (Links to an external site.)
Make sure you are paraphrasing all your answers, never copy and paste works from others. Type in your answer below – please make sure to leave the questions in tact in your final submission for easier grading.
Answer all questions below based upon using the research skills you have obtained above and via Librarian Tran’s workshop assignment.
1. In your own words, describe the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary literature
2. What is a Peer-Reviewed Journal Article, a PRJ, (define) and why are they so important/powerful?
3. What is a library database?
4. How can you know if a resource is reputable or not?
5. Cite this source in CSE Name Year Style. We will be using the CSE Name Year Style for citing our sources throughout our class. Please type out the full citation for this article I recently published (Links to an external site.) (or you can download a direct PDF copy here Download direct PDF copy here). Even though this article is online it is a digital copy of a PRJ, so you cite it as a “journal article” and not a “website”. More information on how to cite in CSE Name Year Style can be found at: https://www.marypoffenroth.com/cse
