Fact Set #1:
• A man in Tacoma was charged yesterday with battery to a law enforcement officer and obstructing official duty.
• The man was named Harley Dudley Surritte.
• He was 42 years old and lived at 2313 S.W. Mission Road.
• He was released on a one thousand dollar bond last night from the county jail.
• Police said he took a 2-by-3 foot velvet painting of Elvis Presley off the wall and threw it at officer Chuck Haggard’s head.
• Police said they were sent to Surritte’s home at 3:39 p.m. on a report of a domestic fight.
• Police said Surritte told them he didn’t like police officers.
Fact Set #2:
• A single-engine AS-350 helicopter owned by Emerican Copters, Inc., of Grand Prairie, Texas, crashed into the Tacoma Museum of Glass.
• The crash happened at about 3:30 a.m. this morning, according to Joe Blow, a Federal Aviation Administrative spokesman.
• Jerry Jones, a sales representative of Emerican Copters, was the pilot. He had one passenger, Tommy Doe. Blow said that Jones lived in the Seattle area. He did not Doe’s address.
• The men, who were traveling to an aircraft trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, died in the crash, Blow said. Blow said that the skies were clear and that the cause of the accident is not known.
• The crash did extensive damage to the glass bridge, knocking over the blue glass sculptures. This part of the bridge, conceived of by internationally known glass blower Dale Chihuly, consisted of two crystal towers rising 30 feet above the bridge deck composed of 60 hollow Polyvitro “sugar cubes.”
• The glass museum opened to the public in July, 2002.
• The glass museum and the bridge are part of the renovations being undertaken on the Thea Foss Waterway.
• No damage estimates were available yet.
“It’s the only known Elvis sighting by law enforcement officers in this area,” a Tacoma police officer said yesterday.
