This assignment focuses on chapters 6, 7 and 8. You WILL choose two out of the three chapters for the assignment.
**Be sure engage in critical thinking and consider culture, race, gender, sex, socioeconomic status, disability, age, or other relevant areas as it relates to the topics you have chosen to discuss.**
Chapter 6 focuses on deviance and crime. On pages 168-173, sociological perspectives on deviance are discussed. Choose 1 theory (you may choose a sub-theory of it. E.g., you can pick labeling theory) that you either agree with or disagree with and do the following:
1) In YOUR own words, provide an explanation of the theory you choose from these pages. Specifically, describe the important concepts and elements of the theory.
2) What are the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen theory? Defend your answer!
3) Provide specific real-life examples of how the theory has played a role in your life (it does not have to be a personal story of crimes committed)
Chapter 7 focuses on stratification, class and inequality. On pages 202-206, sociological theories of stratification are discussed. After reading these theories and the entire chapter:
1) In YOUR own words, explain the concept of stratification as discussed over these pages.
2) What are the strengths and weaknesses of Capitalism? Be certain to explain the concept and justify your answer by using specific examples.
3) How has Capitalism benefitted AND handicapped/disadvantaged you/your life? Provide specific examples to demonstrate an understanding of capitalism.
Chapter 8 focuses on Global Inequality. After reading this chapter in its entirety:
1) Define, explain and identify the mechanisms for which global inequality is perpetuated.
2) What are the effects of global inequality on low income and middle income countries? Be certain to define low and middle income and provide specific examples of such effects.
3) How does global inequality benefit wealthy countries and wealthy individuals? What do YOU propose should be done to counteract the inequalities? Be certain to provide specific examples for each part of number 3.

INSTRUCTIONS: You will pick two out of the three chapters to respond to. For EACH chapter you pick, you will write between 750-1000 words total between the three questions .In other words, let’s say you decide to discuss chapter 7 and chapter 8. The responses to the three questions for chapter 7 should be 750-1000 words. And, the responses to the three questions for chapter 8 should total between 750-1000 words. Thus, the entire paper should range between 1500-2000 words. There is no word count requirement per each question within the chapter questions. For instance, let’s say you choose chapter 7 and chapter 8. For chapter 7, question #1 could end up with 200 words, question #2 could end up with 500 words and question #3 could end up with 500 words.
