An important part of statistics is taking samples and discussing the results in a meaningful way. In this discussion board, you are going to take a small survey from friends and/or family and analyze the results to better understand the statistical process.
Initial Post
In your initial post, ask five people what their favorite color and their favorite number is. You may include yourself and your children. Share your results with your classmates and answer the following questions. Make sure to explain your reasoning in each of the responses.
Define each variable as either quantitative or qualitative.

Find the mean of the favorite numbers. What does your answer represent? Is it meaningful?
What type of chart do you believe would be meaningful to help illustrate favorite colors?

The favorite color of individuals surveyed would be considered qualitative data, since it does not contain numerical values. The favorite number of individuals is quantitative data since it does contain numerical data.
I did not find a mode for favorite number, however, the mode for favorite color is blue.
The mean of the favorite numbers is 20.4, this represents the average of favorite numbers in the data sampled. A list of favorite numbers belongs to an interval level of measurement and is by definition meaningful.
Since favorite color is considered qualitative data, I believe a pie chart would best illustrate the data.
