Each student is required to complete a descriptive research report, in APA format. The
topic for the Lesson 14 Assignment is the Cook County Administrative Building High-
rise Fire. Please review the Chapter 14 Case Study found on page #365 of the course
textbook. The research paper should include a discussion of the following topics:
• Identify and describe the building construction type used in the Cook County
Administrative Building.
o Identify the challenges associated with suppressing fires and this type of
building construction.
o Identify and describe the challenges faced by firefighters while responding
to the Cook County Administrative Building High-rise Fire.
• Identify the building construction features that contributed to the loss of life.
• Identify how the fire was eventually suppressed.
• Include a recommendation section for preventing this incident and for reducing
risk to firefighters when operating at fires in buildings of this type of construction.
Take the following steps to complete this assignment:
1.Access one or more of the libraries listed below and identify a minimum of one
reference (more is better) that include materials describing the Cook County
Administrative Building Fire. You may also use Internet resources or other publications
for this assignment. However, Wikipedia is not an acceptable resource for use in this
