Trace the creation of the modern self, and explore what the consequences of modern life may be for our selves.
Make sure these elements are included in your discussion:

a theory of self
the role of others – individually and as a group – in creating self
the role of technology in the transformation of individual selves, & self on a society-wide scale
Your essay will be judged more favorably if it is clearly your original product, and more than just a set of answers to the above elements of the prompt. In other words, you should have a thesis, and it should be uniquely your own.
Be sure to use a variety of course readings to support your points. Mandatory readings include Twenge, Turkle, Newman, Mead, Cooley, and Gergen. Any others are up to you.
