1): Select ONE module or assigned reading in the course that was particularly meaningful to you, and create a map of its concepts. You need not use every concept in the module (or reading), but you should try to include as many essential concepts in your map as possible. You may also connect concepts from different modules (or readings).
Your goal is to tell a coherent story about course content visually. As such, you should be strategic in what concepts you elect to include and what concepts you omit. You should organize the concepts differently than they appear in the course content (don’t simply replicate the list of topics in the module or reading).
Your concept map should be constructed on a single 8.5” by 11” page. You can use MS PowerPoint to construct your map, but other software applications are also permissible. It is also permitted to draw your concept map by hand and then scan it for submission.
In addition to the actual concept map, you should write a short description of the concept map, explaining its logic and organization. The written component is meant to guide the reader and provide some context that will enable them to understand the concept map more clearly. As such, it should provide a global perspective rather than focus on the details of the concept map. The written portion should be about 200 words.
2): Following the creation of your concept map, you will apply what you’ve learned in the module (or reading) to your own experiences. You should write about one or two experiences. These can reflect thoughts or actions, they can reflect solitary experiences or those encountered in a relationship, they can be about you or about someone else. But they must be experiences you are comfortable sharing.
For each experience, you will identify and describe a different psychological concept (or multiple concepts) from your map that can help provide greater insight into that experience. Each description should provide details about the experience, clearly identify and describe the concept(s) in psychology that are relevant, and explain how the concept is related to the experience.
