Nursing research has the potential to influence future nursing practices and improve patient outcomes by acquiring knowledge through research (Helbig, 2028). A nursing practice problem would be emotions and feelings in critical and emergency situations. In situations where a traumatic event such as a pediatric patient in a trauma situation to a manic and aggressive patient, nurses have emotions and feelings. : Moral emotions are a key element of our human morals; emotions play an important role in the caring process (Jimenez, 2020). Having resources available to nurses after a traumatic event on the unit to speak their minds and feelings about the situation would be beneficial. An example from experience would be a pediatric patient that arrived from a motor vehicle crash arrived at the emergency department with CPR in progress. After 2 hours of performing CPR and other life-saving methods, the patient was not able to be revived. The atmosphere in the unit changed, it became heavy, and the eyes on everyone were dull. The passing of the patient was heavy on the unit and all those involved. This event occurred during the night shift, and afterward, a team is supposed to come to the unit after a traumatic event to speak to those involved to aid with everyone’s mental health however, no one showed up. We continued and completed our shift, all with heavy thoughts. It wasn’t until the next day that we were told we would receive time to talk, but it wouldn’t be till right before our shift was over (which would be over 24 hours from the event occurred). Another event is when a patient arrived intoxicated, under the influence of some illicit drug, and extremely combative. The patient was physically and verbally abusing the staff members; security is present; the nurses and other staff members must continue to care for this patient without bias, all the while enduring the verbal abuse and potential physical abuse. Nursing staff members are at the greatest risk of experi[1]encing physical and psychological violence at work, compared to other healthcare staff (Stevenson et al. 2015).
