You are the director of a child care facility for children ages 3 to 5. As part of staff development night, you are going to create a PowerPoint presentation to educate your staff on three common disabilities among young children with special needs. You will also discuss the importance of family involvement in children with disabilities and how your staff members can partner with parents to facilitate family involvement in your center. In your presentation, you will want to use multiple examples to illustrate knowledge of the culture and characteristics of the families and children with disabilities. You should be able to describe how children with disabilities will function or behave in the school setting. You should also take into consideration the child’s family traditions and culture.

Assignment Directions:
Develop PowerPoint presentation incorporating speaker notes. Include the following information in your presentation:

•Introduction Slide:
Introduce yourself, define your viewpoint on teaching social skills to children with disabilities, describe your academic goal, and your career goal.
•Disability 1 Slide:
Identify and define the disability, share the social/emotional, cognitive, and physical domains that this disability affects.
•Disability 2 Slide:
Identify and define the disability, share the social/emotional, cognitive, and physical domains that this disability affects.
•Disability 3 Slide:
Identify and define the disability, share the social/emotional, cognitive, and physical domains that this disability affects.
•Family Involvement Slide:
Recommend two strategies that can be used to partner with families to facilitate family involvement. Explain two benefits to the child when parents are involved in the child’s educational experience.
•Teach a Social Skill & Home to School Connections Slide:
Give an example explaining the steps in teaching a social skill to a child with disabilities. Explain how to work with a family using culturally sensitive practices to generalize the skill between home and school. (See the passage in Chapter 15 Defining Appropriate Social Skills).
•Conclusion Slide:
Outline three key ideas that summarize the main points of your presentation. Your final thoughts should justify why this information is important in serving the needs of the child with disabilities.

Correct APA formatting and citations
Include a title slide, an intro/outline slide, concluding slide, and a reference slide
Include a minimum of 3 references in APA format.
Presentations are visual. Do not put too much information on one slide. Images and diagrams are wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required information. Include proper citations for images and diagrams.
Remember, it is important that your presentation section on learning style is personal, easy-to-follow, and well organized. Follow these guidelines to further engage the presentation audience:

Avoid crowded slides. You want your audience listening to your presentation, not reading all the material.
Share your enthusiasm and interest in the subject matter.
Relate the material back to your personal experience when possible.
Read the presentation out loud to yourself before you begin your narration.
