Psychodynamic Theories
Psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces where Personality is a person’s differences in uniqueness patterns of thoughts, behavior and feeling (Feist & Feist, 2009). It normally focuses on two wide areas i.e. understanding individual differences in specific personality traits such as irritability or sociability and understanding how the different parts of a person come together as a whole. The psychodynamic theories include: Freud, Jung, Adler, Fromm, Erickson, Sullivan, Klein and Horney. These theories are discussed below (Feist & Feist, 2009).
Freud’s Theory
According to Feist & Feist, (2009).This theory according to Freud explains that personality includes the ego, id, and the super ego. These three parts work together in creating human behavior. That is the id drives to want food and the ego helps people to find a reasonable way to obtain that food and the superego holds the morality of a person. The strength of the theory is that the ego gives a person the ability to maintain mental stability and low ego give a person mental disharmony.
