Multimodal Project
The multimodal project will reimagine your argument essay in a new format and for a new intended
audience.
Direction 2
You must inform the class about one interesting theory, idea or practice that you discovered while
researching your Argumentative Essay. You should present the context and background of this new
idea, explain what it means and how it fits into an existing argument, and argue why it is exigent and
important for the audience.
Your focus needs to be specific, detailed, and convincing to ensure that you are not just telling your peers
about something, rather trying to convince a very specific audience about your argument based on methods
other than the traditional academic essay.
You have several choices for the mulitimodal format.You may choose from a variety of multimodal formats
to suit your essay from

§ poster
§ podcast
§ advertisement
§ other
You can choose from one of the formats on this list, or propose another format to your instructor.
Presentation of the Multimodal Project
Once you have revised the format of your essay to a multimodal format, you will share this transformation
to the class through an engaging oral and/or visual presentation.
This presentation has two main goals.
1. Demonstrate to the class your multimodal project
2. Explain the overall strategy and rationale for choosing your project direction and how you think this
impacted the newly imagined audience and argument
Checklist
Below are the key tasks associated with the presentation assignment:
Create a multimodal format appropriate to the content of your argument essay (website mockup,
advertisement, podcast, poster, etc)
Deliver an 5-8 minute oral presentation that explains your multimodal argument
Turn in on Canvas an outline of your presentation/demonstration (the notes you use to guide your
oral presentation).
Answer questions after your presentation and ask questions after other presentations. (You will be
required to ask questions about other students’ presentations in every class.)

Argument (30
points)
Well-selected multimodal format (poster, website, advertisement, etc) that
effectively presents the student’s argument. The multimodal argument is clearly
targeted toward a specific audience. Visuals or other communication methods
effectively present the entirety of the student’s original argument.
Content of the
Presentation (20
points)
The presentation clearly explains the elements of the multimodal project. The
student presents the multimodal argument to the class by explaining the original
argument, the reformatting to be multimodal, and all of the rhetorical choices that
went into the making of the multimodal argument. The multimodal argument is
well-presented, clear, and organized in a way that is appropriate. The presentation
is informative and coherent. Prepared notes contain useful content for guiding the
delivery.
