What is Jane Martin’s argument?

In the book Rodeo by Jane Martin, she argues that the short-term tactics of the rodeo industry are hurting our environment and animals on a large scale, but that there is still hope for the rodeo industry and society as a whole to become more environmentally conscious. The Last Rodeo, the main setting in the book Rodeo, is the rodeo that was held in Colorado. The setting of the book revolves around many different characters and different issues like environmentalism and animal rights. While reading this book I learned that rodeo has a history of being cruel to animals, but by understanding its background it became quite obvious why they are still doing it.

Jane Martin also argues that rodeo is starting to incorporate more green programs. She argues that rodeo will try to do anything for publicity, but that the rodeo industry should focus on being more environmentally conscious than on getting unnecessary attention. Jane Martin learned a lot about the environment and animals when she was researching for her book. This book is a nonfiction novel and could be used in a variety of different ways. The topic of rodeo is very controversial and these issues, combined with the setting of Colorado all make it an interesting read.

Rodeo by Jane Martin Summary

The book Rodeo by Jane Martin is a non-fiction novel about the rodeo that took place in a small town in Colorado called Last Rodeo. Jane Martin is a freelance writer and environmental reporter who was looking to report on the environmental impact of the rodeo. After she started to research, she saw that there were bigger issues surrounding the rodeo than just the environment. She decides to write her report on why nobody likes rodeos anymore and how they could be changed to become more environmentally friendly.

The book reveals some interesting facts about the rodeo industry. She found that the history of rodeo is quite controversial. The first image people have of the rodeo is a bunch of men on horses chasing cows and calves around until they get chomped in half by the bull riders. The original purpose of the rodeo was to use the bulls that were too dangerous to be used for breeding to entertain the public and put them out of their misery. This is a very interesting fact that many people do not know.

Rodeo by Jane Martin Analysis

In this book about rodeo, there are many different issues that Jane Martin is writing about. It involves the environment, animal rights, how the rodeo industry has changed over the years, and some of their short-term tactics to get what they want. She shows how the bull riders were meant to be killed but instead, they decided to use them as a form of entertainment and went on to make a fortune. This is quite a surprising fact and I found it quite interesting.

In this book we also see how the rodeo industry has tried to change to be more environmentally friendly because they are making a fortune out of it. They are using the bull riders as some sort of animal rights activists and the bulls as a part of their publicity schemes. This is something that I did not expect but it seems like an easy way for them to make more money. Even though the rodeo industry is being more environmentally friendly it still revolves a lot around cruelty to animals which is against their green movements.

I think that rodeos should stay the same way they are today and not allow their sport to become more like an entertainment act. The rodeo is meant to be a sport that shows how hard-working cowboys are. Instead of using them in fights with bulls, they can use them to teach kids to be responsible. Rodeos should not try and change because they know people will take advantage of it. The rodeo should stay basic rodeo and not try their hand at being more environmentally friendly. That could result in a lot of organizations trying to change the rodeo industry which could ruin everything.

Rodeo by Jane Martin Essay

The rodeo is a very controversial issue. Some support it and some do not. The reason for this is because of the gruesome way that they use the bulls and animals such as cows and calves. Even though it seems not as cruel as bullfighting there are many different reasons why people do not feel the same way (Goldhawk et al., 2021). This happens to be a very controversial issue that many people are divided on. The rodeo industry’s short-term strategies severely harm our environment and animals.

An example that supports Martin’s claim is bull riding at Professional Bull Riders. These are bull riders who are paid to ride bulls in a rodeo. Unlike when it was used for breeding, these bulls are not killed, they are just put out of their misery (Goldhawk et al., 2021). While they do this the riders get hurt quite badly and some even die. This is the main reason why people oppose this form of entertainment (Kidder, 2021). The fact that they are being medically treated is also very interesting because of how well these professionals can deal with pain (Ison, 2019). This form of entertainment also gives a negative image of rodeos which makes people not want to support them in any way.

There are many different reasons why people do not support rodeos and bull riding. Some people feel that it is cruel to use animals as entertainment. They think that they should be used only to breed and not for people to pay a lot of money to see them get killed (Ison, 2019). Other people who oppose the rodeo think that animals should not be killed for any reason at all. They think that killing animals is just not right and that people do not understand the pain and suffering that these animals feel (Kidder, 2021). The animals are used in rodeos for entertainment. To entertain people, they are taken directly from the fields and placed into arenas that have lots of people (Ison, 2019). They are forced to stand there and wait until a signal is given to tell them that they need to run very fast. These animals often die a painful death when they are tossed around by large angry animals.

The rodeo industry’s short-term tactics gravely injure animals and the environment. It is a very controversial issue and many people are divided on it. The reason for this is because of how cruel a lot of people think that the rodeo is. People should also not support them in any way because they are killing animals just so they can have fun and enjoy themselves.
