Reflective Journal Assignment Help:
Task:
Journal Reflection: Epistemology, Theory, Research Design, Research Question, and Method/s for Data Collection
This Assignment addresses important elements of the research process, and your answers should be based on relevant Bryman chapters, the set journal articles, lecture content, and any relevant tutorial notes.
Note that the assignment is NOT an essay but short answers to each of the set questions. You may enter your answers directly into this template document under the relevant question. Quotes are not to be used at any point in your answers, you must rely on your own words.
You need to answer the set of questions in relation to nominated journal articles taken from the reading list as indicated below. You must reference (include page numbers) your answer to each question, that is, make sure you give in-text references to the specific text/page that provides the basis for your answer. You may also cross reference to other answers if you think that is appropriate. The referencing style is Harvard, and your reference list is NOT INCLUDED in the word limit.
To complete this Reflective Journal you need to complete the following activities, in the order presented here in this document. Answer each set of questions in sections 1, 2, and 3 for each article separately. As noted above, you may enter your answers directly into this template document under the relevant question. Do not use quotes at all.
N.B.: use in-text citations in Harvard style to identify which article you are addressing at each point but do not place the name of the article above your answer.
Select two of the journal articles, from the list of five articles in the list below, and read them thoroughly:
1. Cullen, B T & Pretes, M 2000, ‘The meaning of marginality: interpretations and perceptions in social science’, Social Science Journal, vol. 37, no. 2, pp. 215-29.
2. Gurran, N., 2003 'Housing locally: positioning Australian local government housing for a new century', Urban Policy and Research, vol.21, no. 4, pp.393–412.
3. Horsfall, D., Noonan, K. & Leonard, R. 2012. Bringing our dying home: How caring for someone at end of life builds social capital and develops compassionate communities. Health Sociology Review, 21, 373-382.
4. Toombs, M 2012 ‘Ethical research for Indigenous people by indigenous researchers’, Aboriginal and Islander Health Worker Journal, vol. 36, no. 1, pp. 24-6.
5. Willis, P 2009, 'It really is water off our backs: young LGBQ people’s strategies for resisting and refuting homonegative practices in Australian workplaces, Gay and Lesbian Issues and Psychology Review, vol. 5, no. 3, pp. 134-45.
Based on your reading of these articles, any relevant chapter/s in Alan Bryman (2016) 4 th edition text book you consider applicable, lecture content and tutorial notes, answer the following three (3) questions in relation to BOTH (TWO) of the research articles you selected from the list above:
1. Identify the epistemology and theory for each of the articles you have selected (you may offer an educated guess if the article is not explicit, but do use the article and Bryman to support your guess).
2. Explain in your own words: what justification/explanation for choosing the research design was provided by the researcher/s?
3. Explain in your own words what method/s have been used to collect the research data. What justification/ explanation for choosing these methods was provided by the researchers? (You may offer an educated guess if the article is not explicit, but do use the article and Bryman to support your guess.)
AND
Answer the following question in relation to only ONE of the research articles you have already selected and answered questions on for the preceding section (you need to answer all four components):
4. Consider the rationale linking the research question, and method/s for data collection reported in the article. Briefly discuss the link between the research question and method/s of data collection from the following perspectives
i. The epistemology and the link between the research question and method/s of data collection
ii. The theory/theoretical perspective and the link between the research question and method/s of data collection
iii. The research purpose and the link between the research question and method/s of data collection
iv. The research design and the link between the research question and method/s of data collection
NOTE: In answering all the questions above use your own words and remember to reference the answers you give to the relevant page number(s) in both Bryman (2016) and the relevant article using Harvard style.
