Client Screening:

1) You are a personal trainer at your local gym and are about to meet with a potential new client. The appointment is with Cassie, a 25-year- old with a significant weight loss goal. Cassie currently weighs 112kg and stands at 156cm tall. Her doctor has advised her that she needs to lose weight as she is currently at high risk of becoming type 2 diabetic. Cassie currently undertakes no exercise and works eight hours per day at a desk job. Her diet is high in saturated fat and sugar and consists of a large amount of fast food. She typically buys all her meals and does not prepare her own food. She drinks about two glasses of water per day but at least three cans of Coca-Cola.

1. List the benefits of regular exercise and identify the purpose of a client assessment that you could advise to Cassie during an assessment.

2. Explain the limitations of a personal trainer in providing nutritional advice during the assessment with Cassie.

3. Create an individual battery of tests that will suit Cassie needs and current fitness level.

4. Based on the information that Cassie has provided you with, what type of healthy eating habits would you suggest that she tries to incorporate into her routine?

2) Jacob is undertaking an initial consultation with you. He is a 23-year- old semi-professional football (soccer) player. He wants to work with a trainer in order to improve his speed and his upper body strength so that he can be stronger when in possession of the ball. His long-term goal, within the next 24 months, is to be offered a professional contract. Jacob hopes to train with you three times per week for 45 minutes. He would also like some dietary advice, as he tends to eat for convenience. He tends to skip breakfast, usually eats pasta for lunch prior to training, and for dinner will eat something quick, like chicken and chips.

1. Identify Jacob’s goals and whether these can be considered short, medium, or long term.

5. Create an individual battery of tests that will suit Jacob's needs and current fitness level.

6. Based on the information that Jacob has provided you with, what type of healthy eating habits would you suggest that he tries to incorporate into his routine?
