Mr John Brown is a 43 year old male who is transferred to your high dependency unit from the surgical ward. He is 3 days post admission with a large ulcer to his right lower leg. He has had the ulcer for a number of weeks and it was not healing at home.
He has been deteriorating for the past 4 hours and his observations on arrival to you are as
follows:
Spo2 93% on room air
Pulse 115 beats/min
Blood Pressure 110/65
Respiratory Rate 32 breaths/min
Tympanic Temperature 38º C.
Mr Brown has a history of obesity, Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. You note he has not had any of his daily medications today including his Atenolol or Metformin. On arrival to your department he is complaining of urinary frequency and you note he has not had a fluid balance chart maintained prior to arrival. He has a PICC line inserted into his right brachial vein due to difficult IV access and the need for intravenous antibiotics. He is transferred to your department on a cardiac monitor. You also note he has a dressing on his right leg and you cannot see in the notes when this wound was last reviewed/ redressed.
You are required to do the following:
1. Identify potential complications this patient is at risk of delveloping
2. Prioritise your nursing assessments and subsequent interventions in light of this patients current state.

Mrs Smith has an indwelling catheter insitu and her fluid balance chart shows a decreased urine output over the past 4 hours.
Respiratory assessment reveals decreased air entry bilaterally. She has a central venous catheter inserted into her left subclavian vein and is currently on a cardiac monitor. You also note she has a dressing on her right arm and you cannot see in the notes when this wound was last reviewed.
