Research Paper – Final Instructions
You will write a paper on a chosen DSM-5 category topic approved by your instructor. The content of your paper must address the following: Anxiety Disorder is the topic
1.A succinct overview of the disorders in this DSM-5 category (do not copy and paste from the DSM-5—this information must be evaluated and reworded into your own words)
2.Potential causes of these disorders (think nature and nurture both in this section: genetics, heredity, environment, and spiritual)- include the biological, neurological, and physiological factors that affect human development, functioning, and behavior; address systemic and environmental factors that affect human development, functioning, and behavior
3.What processes would be used to evaluate for disorders in this category
4.Treatment options for these disorders to include ethical and culturally relevant strategies for establishing and maintaining in-person and technology-assisted relationships; and identification of evidence-based counseling practices
5.A biblical perspective of these disorders and their treatment
6.Future research considerations for disorders in this category to include evidence-based counseling strategies and techniques for prevention and intervention
This course is designed to teach you the process of diagnosing and the differentiating signs and symptoms of the diagnoses according to the DSM-5, which you must know in order to pass the exam for your state license. Once a client’s diagnosis has been established, treatment will follow. In order to get a better understanding of the disorders, you will be required to research one of the specific DSM-5 categories in this paper.
The paper must be 12–14 pages (not including the title page, abstract, or reference pages). The quality of the paper must reflect the level of graduate work. Avoid having too many quotes and integrate your research (i.e., sources) in your paper. A good graduate paper must not be like a quilt, but like a rug: not patched together, but woven together. While structure is important, content is more significant. However, writing your paper without subheadings or not correctly referencing your sources is never acceptable. For example, stating something such as, “research has shown that…,” without documenting the source will lower your grade.
Papers MUST BE written in current APA format; check your APA writing carefully because you will be graded on the accuracy of APA format. The APA Publication Manual provides information on how to write (e.g., grammar), how to format a paper (e.g., title page, abstract, headings), how to cite references, and many other tools. Use the table of contents to help you locate things. Additionally, be sure to examine the research and topic from a biblical worldview, demonstrating critical thinking. You may also need to use the following reference materials to support your point of view—biblical word studies and biblical commentaries.
To validate the information included in your paper, use articles published in professional peer-reviewed (scholarly) journals. Limit your use of general textbooks to a maximum of 2. Websites must be avoided as many of these are not scholarly. If you are unsure, check with your instructor.

Part 1
In about 100 words – Think about your work interests and experiences. Summarize what you have learned about your own work interests and how they match with your experiences and goals for your career path. List your interest(s) such as where might you want to work based on culture fit, in what industry, and describe current experiences and accomplishments that you have gained that fit with your career choice. If you are already well established on your career path, discuss your current workplace fit and your experiences/accomplishments that will help you stay successful on your journey.
Part 2
In 100-200 words – Now list at least 3 things that you will work on to build more skills and experiences necessary for career growth. What accomplishments might you still need to further your career into a position that you would like to attain? How might you network to create new opportunities?
Part 3
In 100-200 words – And finally, contemplate the future workplace based on what you have learned about society and how it continues to change and shape what work may look like in the future. What do you think you should be prepared for and what might be required of you as a worker based on possible social changes in the future (think about large-scale changes in global workforce, population, technology, and growing industries for example).

This assignment mostly follows the perimeters Writing Assignment #2–the big difference is that you will be working on a case in preparation for the debate. Be sure that you have identified the central conflict of values in the case, propose a solution, provide three reasons to support your proposal (virtues of your proposal, duties satisfied, good consequences, application of moral principles, argument by analogy, etc), and raise a strong objection and provide a response.
A note about the due date: it would be best to submit your work as soon as the 28th; the due date of the 29th is soft. Be sure that you have submitted your first draft no later than the 3rd of March.
Why would you turn in your work earlier than the 3rd? Because you are more likely to receive feedback before your team debates–enabling your team to take advantage of our comments.
Development
After selecting/being assigned a case–
First, identify one of the central and unique ethical conflicts or “issues” at stake in the case. This will ensure that you develop a solution to the case that is relevant to the case; it will also help you focus your argument. Second, develop (a) a proposed solution, (b) at least three reasons supporting this solution (this is where additional research starts to become crucial), (c) at least one reasonable and strong objection to your position, and (d) a response to that objection (you might respond by giving reasons against the objection, or by modifying your proposal to minimize the significance of the objection). Be mindful of perspectives and values you may be denying, ignoring, and demoting. Avoid doing this as much as possible. But when you find that it is unavoidable, think of your reasons for doing so.
Format
Introduction

Argument
At least three reasons to support your proposal. Each of these three should probably be discussed within its own paragraph.
Objection and Response
A strong objection to your proposal A response
There is no need for a concluding paragraph.
Your work should be around 3 to 5 pages in length (double-spaced). Include a works cited for any additional research you do.

Overview
This project consists of taking the three free online assessments and writing a 4-5 page paper in APA format, not including the title and reference page. The three assessments were assigned to you and due Tuesday, February 18th through Canvas. Your graphic of the personal flourishing wheel CAN be counted as one of the 4-5 pages.
You will be creating your own flourishing wheel and vitality life span by looking through the lens of positive psychology, the Blue Zones concepts, and weaving in theories and lecture content pulling together a succinct paper on your own personal development and lifespan and healthspan.
You can include images, tables, and figures, to demonstrate how you will improve your development, lifespan, and healthspan. Remember, tables and figures are to be put into your Results section. Your personal flourishing wheel belongs in the results section.
How to create a personal flourishing wheel will be covered on Tuesday, February 18th lecture.
How to organize papers for this class:
Before you write a formal paper, it’s helpful to first write an outline. This will assist you in the flow of writing the final project. Please keep in mind, some of the papers due in this class may not ‘strictly’ follow the formal headings. For example, you may not need to write a formal methods/procedures section. But, there are ways you can re-label this section or continue to use the formal heading.
Typically, an APA outline is organized using the following Headings:
Don’t forget Title Page
“Introduction & Thesis Statement” – This should be one of the strongest parts of your paper. Convince the reader your paper is worth the time to read. Be precise, impactful, factual, and use strong quotes if you wish but not cliche’s. The thesis statement needs to be stating your argument or your position on the topic. Be specific. Explore this link for examples of bad and good thesis statements. https://examples.yourdictionary.com/thesis-statement-examples.html (Links to an external site.) “Literature Review” – Discuss the various sources of material (scholarly articles, lecture, text) and their contribution to the current knowledge about your topic. Consider using Google Scholar and Easy Bib. “Methods / Procedures” – Describe what was done, how it was done, give strategies, sample calculations, diagrams/models, and descriptions of equipment (if used). The goal here is to give the reader sufficient information to be able to repeat the work if desired. “Results” – This section is where you prove your point with data. Implement figures, tables, and/or graphs when appropriate. Also, give some description or guide to help the reader recognize your important observations about the data. “Conclusion / Discussion” – Here you state what you learned or proved. Summarize your “take-a-ways” and speculate on how you might apply the concepts or principles in your paper to make other personal changes or changes in your professional life. Describe interesting observations, new questions, limitations of the study, and future work here. In your conclusion, it is essential to restate your thesis from the introduction. “References” – List all your references using APA format.
I encourage you to use this resource (the abstract is ONLY mandatory for your mid-term paper). However, if you want to practice writing an abstract, you are always welcome to add it to your other papers. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/a…
