CH 05 CRITICAL QUESTIONS: Cognitive Psychology and the Law: Guiding the Formulation of New Laws

You should then read at least one of the following two articles by Strayer and colleagues about cellphone use and driving. The 2001 paper is a early study that compares hands-free and handheld cell phone use. The 2003 paper focuses mostly on hands-free conversations.

After reading the materials presented to you, please write a persuasive argument about whether there should be laws restricting the use of cell phones while driving and what those laws should be. Be sure to back up your claims with citations and specific examples from the readings.

NH just passed a hands-free law this summer. According to the research on cell phone use and attention, is the law is justified? Should it be more or less strict? Why?

Aim to write 1.5-2 double-spaced pages. Feel free to cite any outside sources you’d like as well.
