I don’t understand this Statistics question and need help to study.

Determine and interpret the linear correlation coefficient, and use linear regression to find a best fit line for a scatter plot of the data and make predictions.

Scenario

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the probability of a magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake in the Greater Bay Area is 63%, about 2 out of 3, in the next 30 years. In April 2008, scientists and engineers released a new earthquake forecast for the State of California called the Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast (UCERF).

As a junior analyst at the USGS, you are tasked to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to support the claim of a linear correlation between the magnitudes and depths from the earthquakes. Your deliverables will be a PowerPoint presentation you will create summarizing your findings and an excel document to show your work.

The PowerPoint presentation should answer and explain the following questions based on the spreadsheet provided above.
Slide 1: Title slide Slide 2: Introduce your scenario and data set including the variables provided. Slide 3: Construct a scatterplot of the two variables provided in the spreadsheet. Include a description of what you see in the scatterplot. Slide 4: Find the value of the linear correlation coefficient r and the critical value of r using α = 0.05. Include an explanation on how you found those values. Slide 5: Determine whether there is sufficient evidence to support the claim of a linear correlation between the magnitudes and the depths from the earthquakes. Explain. Slide 6: Find the regression equation. Let the predictor (x) variable be the magnitude. Identify the slope and the y-intercept within your regression equation. Slide 7: Is the equation a good model? Explain. What would be the best predicted depth of an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0? Include the correct units. Slide 8: Conclude by recapping your ideas by summarizing the information presented in context of the scenario.

THIS IS MY ARTICLE FROM WEEK ONE THAT EXPLAINS MY TEACHING STYLE:

Our text indicates that the curriculum model and curriculum approach are sometimes used interchangeably. After reading chapter one and chapter two of our text, I have concluded that I am closely relatable toward B.F. Skinner’s behavioral techniques as in such with Operant Conditioning. This makes sense because this teaching approach concentrates on observable objectives like learning physical skills, as well as behavioral and emotional adaptation and restructuring. Which in turns gives bounded goals toward specific pre-determined ends.

“B.F. Skinner’s idea is that learning is a function of change in overt behavior and the change in behavior are the result of an individual’s response to events, i.e. stimuli that occur in the environment. Teaching should seek to implement a reinforcement system.” (wikibooks.org).

Finding out that I align with Skinner’s theory gave me problems with teaching a group of children that have age gaps, cognitive functions, and maladaptive behaviors. This is because I was trying to train those children to expect rewards, that I forgot to realize that this theory of teaching can lead to failure in the absence of a reward. In reality I must come to realize that teaching should include moral and conscious decision making. In the real world we do not realize that this kind of teaching method could give the idea that for everything we do we should get rewarded. We forget we must teach to know that with hard work and learning from mistakes is what gains our rewards. That we have to earn the rewards in life. Its more than trying to “condition”.

It will be hard to address against the history and influence of Skinner. If I were to, I would have to start but remembering that not every lesson is rewarded. We do not live in a perfect world. That is what makes going against such teaching of Skinner’s theories of human condition. Keeping a student engaged is hard work. I will stand fast in argument that we are what our environment is.
