3 parts read carefully
Failure to follow instructions may result in a reduced grade
Be sure to include your name, instructor name, date, course, and lesson number at the top of your submission.
Please ensure to cite your sources properly to avoid significant online similarities. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are worth 10% of your grade.
You must use at least two credible sources, other than your textbook, and provide a works cited page with your sources. Failure to include a works cited page will result in a reduction in grade.
You are responsible for what is written in the instructor’s feedback. Please ensure that you read all comments from your teacher.*
In this Unit, you learned about the Legislative Branch and Congress. You learned that Congress is made up of two parts–the House of Representatives and the Senate—and what the minimum requirements are for becoming a Congress member. You also learned that the House and Senate share powers, but also have very distinct duties and responsibilities. For this project, you will put what you learned into a presentation, to include visual aids that will help engage the reader. Your presentation will have a cover slide (with your heading information on it) and a slide for sources. This presentation should total eight slides.
THIS PROJECT HAS THREE PARTS THAT MUST ALL BE COMPLETED
Note that headings and citations are not included in word count total!
Make sure you use your sources properly to avoid plagiarism, and cite your sources appropriately. You need to synthesize the information you find and form your own original thoughts–your sources should only be used to further support your ideas (this means, you should paraphrase to show understanding).
You must use visual aids in your presentation.
Part 1 (3 slides total)
In at least 200 words total, compare and contrast the powers (what they can and are required to do) of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
For one slide, list what specific responsibilities are held by the House; for another slide, list the specific responsibilities of the Senate. For the third slide, list shared responsibilities of these two chambers.
Part 2 (2 slides total)
In at least 200 words total, explain how members of the House of Representatives and Senate are elected (types of elections, how often elections are held, how long they serve, what the prerequisites are).  One slide will explain how House members are elected, the other slide will explain how Senate members are elected.
Part 3 (1slide)
Next, go to the US House of Representatives Home Page at http://thomas.loc.gov OR the US Senate Home Page at www.senate.gov. Select one of the standing committees, special/select committees, or subcommittees and click on its link.
Click on Committees on the top menu bar
Select any one of the committees listed in either the House or Senate.
Click on the website of the committee you chose (each committee should have a website that you can go to, if not please choose one that does).
Once you are on the website click on either the “subcommittee” or “full committee” tab, which will list all of the committee’s members.
Then answer the following, in your own words, in at least 100 words, and in complete sentences :
What is the name of the committee you’ve chosen?
What is the specific purpose of the committee you’ve chosen?
Who is the chair of the committee?   Describe why this individual was selected as the chairperson (you may have to do some outside research to learn why).
