Assignment 6 Prompt:
Write the opening (first 2 pages) of your screenplay IN SCREENPLAY FORMAT. Also submit a cover page with your logline and the cast list for your Week 7 Zoom table read.
In this assignment, you will submit the first two pages of your script, properly formatted and written in suitable software. This will get you started on your writing, and let your us guide you as you familiarize yourself with correct formatting, which is crucial to being taken seriously as a screenwriter.
You will be using these first two pages as the basis for your table read during the live Zoom workshop next week. Your Assignment 6 submission should include a cover page that lists all the cast members in these two pages as well as your logline. That will make it much easier to cast your classmates during the session.
Please refer to these SAMPLE FORMAT PAGES to learn what a screenplay should look like.
We suggest you use one of these screenplay software solutions:
Final Draft (Links to an external site.). All pros use this, feel free to take advantage of their free 30-day trial.
Celtx (Links to an external site.). The industry standard free option.
Writer Duet (Links to an external site.). Free for the first three documents.
As you decide how to begin your story, bear in mind that you want to capture your audience from the first frame. You don’t have to begin by introducing your protagonist, but for novice writers, it’s not a bad idea. Make us care about your main character and put him/her in a predicament where it’s easy for us to invest emotionally in them.
Also use this exercise to get to know your protagonist better. Perhaps it will inspire changes in your screenplay as you continue to write and rewrite.

) The movie will have a dramatic ending. I see the main character finally getting an offer a job in the field that he has been dreaming of working in his whole life. He does decide to take it due his career ambitions.
2) The final conflict is the location of the job that is being offered to the protagonist. After spending months on end and being one week from graduation, the character is the conflicted because the job is not anywhere close to his hometown or where his girlfriend currently lives. It happens to be on the other side of the country.
3)The protagonist must sacrifice being around his entire support system in order to work this job. He could continue to keeping looking for jobs after he graduates and move back home, but the recruiting window for his field is over and he would have to wait a year to try again. So, the character ponders whether to move and take the job.
plot background
My movie will be about an only child who is preparing to enter into the real word, who has a good support system of friends and family. The mother will be played by Natalie Portman – I watched Star Wars growing up and felt that she would’ve been a great mother. The father would be Arnold Schwarzenegger – I picked him as I also watched a lot of his movies growing up and his acting supports his ability to raise a family. For the son, I would choose Tom Hanks – I watched Top Gun and given his high-energy approach to things, he would fit the mold well of a young adult. I would also show a friend of the son – Tom Holland (he’s an up-and-coming actor who stars in similar movies to Cruise). Finally, I would show the son’s girlfriend – Margot Robbie.
The protagonist of the story will be played by Tom Cruise. This character is a college student who lives far away from home, but still keeps a warm relationship with his family. He graduated top of the class and now goes to one of the best universities in the country. As he is graduating college soon, he is unsure of what to do next. The job market is not the best for the major he chose, and his girlfriend already landed a job for when they graduate.
The father w ll played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The father is a career corporate America worker, and is approaching the age when he can start to collect his retirement benefits. The father was very abusive to his son when he was younger, but has spent his entire life attempting to repair his relationship. So far, he has gotten to a point where he has developed a form of trust with his son – but not quite as warm as a typical father – son -realtionship

ssignment 8 Prompt:
Write 3 more pages of your screenplay.
For the rest of the class, you’ll be working to complete the first 10 pages of your script. You’ve already completed pages 1-2, and this week, you’ll complete pages 3-5. Learn from the feedback your TA and classmates gave on your first two pages during your live Zooms. Make sure you adhere to the industry standard for professional-looking screenplays. See the Assignment 6 for screenwriting software options.
While it’s entirely up to you what you write, we recommend that you craft a Set-Up sequence that fills the first 10 pages and ends with a scene containing your Inciting Incident.
Typically, you’ll want to introduce your antagonist too, but if setting up your protagonist requires the entire sequence, then all else can wait. Make absolutely sure we care about your main character, so that audiences will want to spend the next hour and more to follow his/her/their journey. Also, give us a sense of what they want, and don’t have. How will the inciting incident upset the balance of the protagonist’s life?
For this assignment, submit pages 1-5. If your TA recommended revisions to pages 1-2, those revisions should be implemented as well. You will be graded on all five pages.
