    The idea that memories are formed in our minds by associations of individual elements – associationism – has been with us for a long time, at least since Aristotle. Please briefly cover all the following points:
    Outline the major milestones in the history and development of this concept (i.e. the thinkers involved and their specific proposals).
    Explain the importance of this in the context of Hebb’s Principle: “neurons that fire together, wire together,” as a simple but powerful potential neural mechanism which could account for associative learning.
    Discuss any modern experimental evidence that Hebb (and Aristotle) were right.
